Bicester Dental Care Treatments: Dental Implants

Why replace a missing tooth? Over time many of us lose teeth through injury, decay or even trauma. By a process of natural drift, any remaining teeth gradually move towards gaps left by missing teeth and this may result in an altered bite and some discomfort. If your front teeth drift, it can also alter
your appearance.

Bone thinning in the jaw at the site of a missing tooth may also cause problems. If significant,
or if many teeth are missing, it can result in a loss of support for the structures of the face and
produce an aged appearance. In addition, some people dramatically alter their diets when missing many teeth and this can lead to poor nutrition.

Together with the loss of confidence that often accompanies these problems, overall health can be severely affected. There are many options available for the replacement of missing teeth.
If you have missing teeth, please book an appointment with your dentist for a detailed
examination and discussion.

What are dental implants?

A dental implant is a titanium cylinder that is carefully placed into the jawbone to replace the root of a tooth. A complete tooth implant consists of three parts:

1 – The titanium implant
2 – Abutment or post
3 – Dental crown

The abutment is customised to the implant and is angled to give the crown a very realistic appearance. The crown is colour or shade matched to your own teeth and is fixed or cemented to the abutment. Dental implants have been used successfully for more than 40 years. If placed by a skilled dentist, they appear and function very much like real teeth.
